Why it caught on: in "That Sinking Feeling" (2010) Squidward watches SpongeBob and Patrick run around outside - in the episode he's just annoyed they're in his garden. In December 2013 a Tumblr post read the frame as pure longing, and from then on the back of Squidward's head became the face of everyone watching other people's fun from behind glass.
