A colleague has read one book on negotiation and now says "let's circle back" with unblinking calm. He asks for your parking space, your project and your lunch break, all in the tone of a man reading a hostage statement.

Your mate's side hustle is now a "brand". He has a logo, a podcast with four listeners and a plan to be a millionaire by thirty. He explains it to you at 2am outside a kebab shop, smiling a touch too long.

The interviewer asks where you see yourself in five years. You've learned the answer from the internet and deliver it perfectly. Nobody in the room is sure whether to hire you or call someone.

You offer to "stay late and help out" and mean it entirely. By Thursday you know everyone's passwords, the boss's coffee order and which door the fire alarm panel hides behind.

Why it caught on: the picture is a dark, blurry-lit still of Lou Bloom, the soft-spoken, self-help-quoting night-time freelance cameraman in the thriller *Nightcrawler* (2014). It works as a film-poster template: people swap in a new title for the same moody face, and the joke is usually a pun on the film's name. It spread because Lou's polite, relentless hustle suits any film about someone who wants it too much.
