A Drake Hotline Bling post.
You have a deadline on Friday and a free evening on Wednesday. You spend it dreading the work in a low, theatrical way. Then a friend texts "pub?" and the dread turns out to have been optional all along. Your savings sit in an account earning almost nothing, which is sensible and dull. Then a man at a barbecue explains a stock that "can't go down". By Monday you're reading about leverage in bed, entirely sure of yourself. The form is due on the first of the month. You know this, and you've known it for weeks. You do it on the last possible evening, with a dying laptop and a password you reset twice, and call it a system. The recruiter says they'll be in touch by Friday. Three weeks later you have a polite rejection, a LinkedIn "congratulations on your new role" from them, and a vague sense that your CV has been forwarded somewhere you'll never see. **Why it caught on:** the pictures are two frames from the video for Drake's "Hotline Bling", directed by Director X and released in October 2015. In both he wears an orange puffer jacket against a bright yellow-orange wall, one frame waving something away and the other pointing in approval. Within weeks people were putting their own rejected and preferred options in the two panels. It spread because any choice fits it, from the sensible option to the one you actually pick.
